Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin shared the official opening of Wygram Nursing Home with our first resident Eileen Underwood on Friday 10th July 10th.
Minister Howlin praised the group of people who had come together to develop the nursing home and particularly complimented the fact that it was constructed in the heart of the town where residents would be able to observe buildings which had been familiar to them all their lives.
James White, one of the co-owners of the Nursing Home, provided the attendance with a history of how the development had come about. Originally it was intended to build houses on the site but the downturn in the economy put paid to that plan.He came up with the idea of developing a nursing home while visiting his late father who was a resident of Knockeen Nursing Home.
The day was enjoyed by all residents and their families, local dignitaries, clergy and friends. The sun shone all day as guests enjoyed a jazz trio in the garden!
